The flagship widget SDK, version one

Built the first version of the widget SDK that became Rentgrata's primary distribution surface — and the one I would migrate to TypeScript and React four years later.

The SDK was the first thing prospective renters touched. Everything downstream — dashboards, messaging, the operator surface — depended on whether the widget rendered correctly on a property’s marketing page within a second of arrival.

What changed

  • Built the flagship widget SDK end-to-end as the company’s primary distribution surface.
  • Conversion lifted 163% in the first two months after launch.
  • Reworked setup so install partners could integrate without engineering hand-holding.
  • Added observability that made it possible to tell, from the operator side, whether a property’s widget was healthy.

What it taught the platform

This entry is short because the work itself was short and direct: make the install easier, make the failure modes legible, ship something property managers want to embed. The lessons from version one — what the boundary is actually promising, what the host page can and cannot tolerate — became the brief for the TypeScript and React rewrite years later.
